Does the my touch 3g support bluetooth file transer. I have tried to send files from my laptop but the message I receive is that  the phone does not support bluetooth file transfer. The only compatible services are the headset service. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply. Coming from a windows mobile background, I was very surprised by the lack of bluetooth capabilities for android. I have read that it is because of some security issue with bluetooth file sharing or something like that. I have looked into rooting my phone, but I'm afraid of bricking it or not getting OTAs.

bricking is pretty hard to do as long as you stay away from messing with the spl. rootings easy and as far as ota's ull be way ahead of any ota. I'm already running 2.1 gotta lotta stuff standard phones dont have. get at me if you wanna root.

I have the 1.6 version mytouch. I am new to this rooting thing and I'm eager to learn more, but I've heard that it is harder to root this phone than the previous version. What is exactly an SPL and why would I want to mess with it? Really would love to have 2.1 running on my phone already. Thanks  Smiley

version 1.6 isnt hard to root just takes time to do some reading before you do it. SPL is a lil different for the most part its not needed to run the majority of the roms out there. 2.1 roms arent fully functional, they're missing the media drivers with means youtube and the camcorder dont work.  I would recommend using cyanogens, Dwang, or Super D's roms they are based on 1.6 but have alot of enhancements. check out xda developers in the link below read up on how to root ur phone and pm me with any questions.

Ok, so I finally rooted my phone. I gotta say it was a tight rope walk at times and several times had to fill in the blanks myself. I used the gold card method and instructions from the unlockr. I am running cyanongenmod-5.0.8-ds-test4. I really like it a lot, but I still can't transer bt files from my computer to the phone. To be honest, it is really not that important to me any more. I tried installing happyrom09b just to see if I could load a hero rom but the phone never got past the load up screen. I am having trouble with my wifi too. Could you suggest a stable rom where bluetooth and wifi work or a hero rom?
Thanks,
Dave
